FastStone Screen Capture. Just drag the picture to the tool and save as a new file type. Any of about 20 different file types. Its more than just a screen capture tool.

FastStone Capture 5.3 http://www.faststone.org/

You do not say what other photo programs you have... list them for more help.
As of this writing, there is a free, online converter. It is easy to use and does a good job.

not positive, but you might just want to try to change the file name to _____.jpg instead of _______.gif. it works from jpegs to bitmaps that way.
Fizuck paint and Microsoft for creating it.

use gimp

http://www.gimp.org

Install gtk and gimp.

Then open it with the gimp and save/export it as whatever you would like.

There are plenty of free conversion tools like Irfanview or use Snipshot

http://snipshot.com/

browse to your gif file, wait for the image to load, click on %26quot;save%26quot; and select .jpg. That's it.
the jpeg format can't have animation or buttons so the picture will be a one shot image without animation ,

to do this i advise you to use adobe photoshop it's very good in working with images but your picture will have no animation unless you keep in gif format and you don't need to make it a jpeg now most systems can handle the gif pictures as well as jpeg pictures

i wish i could help you
