Automate photoshop CS 3 to save pictures in another format?

I have tons of pictures that i need to change their format and/or reduce their size, e.g. jpeg 4MB, to GIF or Jpeg 0.5MB, and save them into another folder (not overwriting the originals), and if possible, rename them too. Could someone please teach me how to automate this process? Thank you.

in photoshop cs3 you cannot say how much the file size will be with GIF it does it automatically but if you want to change the size of a Jpeg do this

1:go to file, save as

2:make sure the file is named and on Jpeg format

3: while in the saving options make sure you name it different or it will overwrite the other picture.

4:click save (the Jpeg Options should appear)

5:slide the thing across (no idea what you call them) its under image options on that window under the quality.

6:it will tell you how big its saving too. the click OK

I hope you can understand this!!
