How can you convert a picture file type on a computer?

i have pictures of my family which i wish to send via e-mail but i get unsupported file type when i try to receive or send pictures,how can i change the format ???

You should be able to convert the file type in any good graphics editor. Just open the picture/graphic in the editor and then click File/Save As, and save it under a file extension that you mail client will work with. JPG is probably the best way to go.

It would have helped if you'd said what format they photographs are currently in. That way someone would have told you what programme will open that specific type of picture file.

For converting one graphic format to another format, I use Irfanview.

A freeware but very cool graphics program. All you do is load the graphic into Irfanview then do a 'save as' and save it to a .jpg file if you are sharing it with friends. http://www.irfanview.com/
